Default GvG matching system

is gvg dead? or is the matching system bad for low rank(941 rating)?
we waited 1 hour+ a few times and still no games...

It's pretty dead for low ranked guilds, especially if your playing Aussie/NZ hours. Try waiting till the GvG Z-Quest comes out and try and get your rating up a bit when all the PvE guilds come out to play.

Even at that level it should be possible for you to find GvG opponents. You have been playing in lame hours and that might be the problem. You`ll have to wait a lot in the afternoon to find a matching partner.

I think that the time of play is our problem (in [MH]).

My guild is very low ranked, and at the time of day we play (very late GMT), we seem to end up against top guilds - so of course, our ranking takes a further beating, as we're still very much on a learning curve. And as our rank gets lower, the time we have to wait for a match gets longer. Doesn't help that I feel we're learning from our mistakes - because as relatively new GvGers, we have no chance against the higher ranked guilds, which is very frustrating. (The last 5 matches we played, we ended up against top 600 guilds. Our rating is now an incredibly pathetic 798.)

*note* It's not like we've lost every match we've played. We generally win against lower ranked guilds. And we're holding out a little bit longer every time against the higher ranked guilds, so I think we are improving (well...our monks are at the very least). However, the number of matches we get against high ranked guilds far outweighs the number of battles we get against lower ranked guilds on something like a 10:1 ratio. It's disheartening to be matched against such high ranked guilds at our level despite the improvements we're making as a team - we see a high ranked guild pop up as our opponent, and the first comment on vent is generally 'shall we just /resign spike now?'.

To the credit of the high ranked guilds who kick our arses, at least they don't call us noobs, etc, which is nice. Some of them even give us a bit if advice. I find the lower ranked guilds are more likely to sneer at our rank, which is odd. But meh, I digress.

If other low ranked guilds are having the same problems as we are, it's no surprise that the waiting times in the very low ranks are abysmal - afterall, who wants to try and get into GvG at a starter level just to face a team that are so far above you in skill level that you barely have chance to make the mistakes to learn from them? Odds are that unless the people involved are serious about wanting to GvG regardless of the epic beatings, people will just quit out before they get good enough to compete on an even level.

We're going to try and play GvG a few hours earlier to see if that makes a difference. I'm really hoping it will, since our next option is to recreate the guild and try to start with a fresh rating in the hope it will make some difference, and stop our members crying as soon as they see our rating.

The best times to find comparable guilds to yours seem to be weekend 4pm to ~8pm GMT, and 8pm GMT to 4am GMT aren't bad either. Friday nights are ok, but Saturday/Sunday are better.

Our guild is sitting at about 1500 rank and play then, and get about 50/50 lower/higher ranked teams. Without fail the last few games of the night for us are against rank 500-800, but it's nice to get that at the end, when we're gaining some steam for a good challenge...

The best times for matches are American evening times, and Euro evening times. Any other time of day is going to generally be pretty empty, yeah.

To the people having a hard time finding even match up's. When you see your facing higher ranked guilds in the 600 ranks and up friend the people that give you advice. You can probably get the higher ranked experienced players to guest for you guys and give you a pointer here and there. Also you should talk to the other people having problems finding matches and set-up scrims so you guys can get gvg's going where you don't sacrifice rating in the hopes of getting a single match. After the match is done you guys can talk to each other and see what you guys did really good and/or bad.

As far as the match setup goes it sucks. My guild which sits anywhere from 400-500 can wait 20 mins for a match peak American times and get no match. Other times we hit enter and 10 second later we're facing a top 50 guild.

I believe GW is trying to say to us to stop playing GW and get a life when it puts a rank 2000 guild vs a rank 100 guild =__=. I know some guilds that usually play 6EST

Farming +2's and 3's is pretty brain dead and has happened to us even on the active hours.
There simply aren't enough guilds in play.

The easiest and least painful method for most pve/pvp guilds would be to make an alt. guild to play gvg in with your main accounts (or secondaries if they have the unlocks) and keep different accounts in the pvp one so you can reform when your rating drops very low and matching takes forever.

We play around 7-8pm BST/GMT/THREE LETTERS HERE, and have no problem getting matches, usually. We're in the, uh... *mumble* 2000 rank range, just starting and all, and will usually get matched with similar. The highest we've played against was about a rank 400-ish.

In my experience the only time you can actually play the game is inbetween 19:00 and 23:00 CET. That's when finding matches shouldn't be a problem. In the old asian times from 16:00 to 19:00 you might get lucky and get a couple of matches. Some days it seems completely empty, some days you only have to wait 5 minutes or so. From 23:00 and forward you often have to wait 15 minutes or so to get a match. This in my experience makes the american times pretty dead.

Your guildrank won't matter in dead hours because after 7 minutes of entering battle the game will take any opponent that logs on. It can be problematic in primetime, when only highranked guilds log on and they face each other, but no lowranked guild logs on so you won't find a match at all. This rarely happens though.

Gvg just never has really been played by most of the community. When the game was released it was extremely unaccessible, there was no obs mode and no guest system. Till this day there are many mechanics that prevent players from getting in GvG. Hero ways that roll noob teams, the ridiculous faction and 14-days system, the fact that you have to unlock skills, you have to get a sigil before you can actually play. Then there was the overall lack of promoting gvg to the players. Obs mode was introduced late but never really got any spotlights on it. GvG is dead because noone plays it and because Anet never did enough to promote it and make it accessible enough. I would never advise anyone right now to start playing gvg. If you want to play a cool competitive game go try DoTa, Heroes of Newerth, Starcraft, NHL, Fifa, Counterstrike or Battleforge but don't waste your time on guild wars.

starcraft? you serious? it's probably one of the few games that's even LESS accessible than GW gvg right now. very fun game, very rewarding, assuming you can find the right opponents. otherwise, its barrier of entry is pretty astronomically high at this point.

Yes but unlike guild wars by the time you get good there will still be opponents. Also it's a 1 player game so you don't have to rely on other players. Or you can just wait for starcraft 2 and start playing it together with all the other noobs that buy it.

While things could change down the line if we (lolyeahright) get a high enough rank/rating to where it makes a difference, maybe we'll feel differently. Right now, though, it's fun. So, thanks for the advice, but we're gonna cheerfully ignore it ^_^

ps: wtb moar noob teams to play
